Understanding High-Security Locks
Lock snapping is one of the most common methods used by burglars to break into homes with Euro cylinder locks. Anti-snap locks are specifically engineered with a sacrificial section that breaks away without giving access to the locking mechanism, stopping the intruder in their tracks.
TS007 is the British Standard rating for Euro cylinders. A 3-star cylinder passes the snap, pick, drill and bump tests on its own, while a 1-star cylinder reaches the same protection when paired with a 2-star security handle. We will recommend the right combination for your door and your insurer.
High-Security Lock Installation FAQ
Honest answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours is not here, just call us.
- Lock snapping involves breaking the Euro cylinder at its weakest point to expose the locking mechanism. Anti-snap locks have a built-in sacrificial break point that snaps away without compromising the lock, keeping your door secure.
- Many insurance companies offer reduced premiums for properties with British Standard or insurance-approved locks. We recommend checking with your insurer.
- We supply and fit all the leading high-security brands including Yale Platinum, Chubb 3G110 and 3G114, Union StrongBOLT, Mul-T-Lock MT5+, Era Fortress, ASEC kitemarked mortice locks, Abus and Brisant Ultion anti-snap Euro cylinders.
- A TS007 kitemarked cylinder is independently tested against lock snapping, picking, drilling and bumping. A 3-star cylinder passes all four attacks on its own, while a 1-star cylinder achieves the same standard when fitted with a 2-star security handle.
- If your uPVC or composite door has a standard Euro cylinder, it is vulnerable to snapping and we strongly recommend upgrading to a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder. It is the single most effective security improvement you can make to these doors.
- We inspect the locks on all your external doors and any vulnerable windows, identify weak points such as snappable cylinders or non-standard mortice locks, and recommend the right upgrades for your property and your insurer with a clear, no-obligation quote.
- Yes. We can supply many high-security cylinders keyed alike so a single key operates your front, back and side doors, which is far more convenient than carrying a different key for each.
- Lock bumping is a technique that uses a specially cut key to force the pins inside a cylinder and open it quickly. Anti-bump cylinders are engineered to resist this, and the kitemarked high-security cylinders we fit defend against bumping as well as snapping, picking and drilling.
- Yes. We upgrade the security of shops, offices and commercial premises with anti-snap cylinders, British Standard mortice deadlocks and reinforced hardware, and can tie this in with master key systems and access control where needed.
- A straightforward anti-snap cylinder swap takes around 15 to 20 minutes per door. A full upgrade across several doors, or fitting British Standard mortice deadlocks, takes a little longer, and we usually complete the whole job in a single visit.
- For the small additional cost over a standard lock, a high-security cylinder removes the most common and fastest break-in methods. Given how quickly a standard cylinder can be snapped, it is one of the most cost-effective security improvements you can make.
